GOP Pushing To Exclude Noncitizens From Future Redistricting, Big For Texas

With the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the new redrawn redistricting map in Texas, national Republicans are now pushing to exclude non-citizens from future redistricting maps.

"It all comes down to political power and money" said Chuck DeVore, chief national initiatives officer for the Texas Public Policy Foundation, "It would probably dilute the power a bit of our major cities, where most illegal immigrants reside."

But there is also another important reason.

"There's also a question of fairness, as to whether or not citizens should have their votes diluted by noncitizens" DeVore told KTRH. Basically, big blue cities should not be rewarded for representing noncitizens.

"In the case of Texas, those populations that are here illegally are concentrated in certain areas, and so from a political standpoint, if you exclude those populations from counting for the district populations, those districts are going to shrink a little bit" noted DeVore.

The next U.S. Census is set for 2030.
