A major water main break in Reading, Pennsylvania, has left thousands without water pressure. The break occurred on Monday night (November 17) on Lancaster Avenue, impacting approximately 8,000 homes and businesses, according to the Reading Area Water Authority (RAWA). Crews have been working through the night to repair the damage and restore service.
The break sent water gushing down Lancaster Avenue, leading to lane restrictions in the area. Residents in the 100-to-500 blocks of Lancaster Avenue are advised to expect service disruptions until repairs are completed. The RAWA has issued a boil water advisory for affected areas, including the 18th Ward and Kenhorst Borough, due to the loss of water pressure. Residents are advised to boil water until further notice, which will be lifted after testing is complete.
By Tuesday morning (November 18), crews had repaired the main break and were backfilling the roadway. However, the boil water advisory remains in place until water quality tests confirm it is safe to lift. The City of Reading expressed gratitude for the patience shown by residents during the repair process, acknowledging the hard work of the crews involved.
For more information, residents can contact the RAWA or visit the City of Reading's official website.
