A recent report by LawnStarter has ranked Reading, Pennsylvania, as the fourth dirtiest city in the United States. The study, titled "2025’s Dirtiest Cities in America," evaluated 300 cities across the country based on factors such as pollution, inadequate living conditions, inadequate waste infrastructure, and resident dissatisfaction.
Reading scored poorly in categories like homes lacking kitchens and plumbing, as well as the percentage of residents who smoke. Additionally, it ranked second in resident dissatisfaction. According to Newser, San Bernardino, California, topped the list as the dirtiest city, followed by Los Angeles, Detroit, and Ontario, California.
Dr. Edgar Stach, a professor of architecture at Thomas Jefferson University, emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining city cleanliness. He stated, "It’s not only the city’s responsibility. We must collectively change the world."
Other Pennsylvania cities also appeared on the list, with Erie ranking 48th, Pittsburgh 86th, Philadelphia 101st, Allentown 195th, and Scranton 206th. The report highlights the need for improvements in living conditions and waste management to enhance the quality of life for residents in these areas.
