LOS ANGELES (CNS) - As Los Angeles bakes under a mini heat wave this week and residents flock to the coast to cool off, the Los Angeles County Health Department is warning the public Thursday to avoid ocean waters at several beaches due to high bacteria levels.

The affected beaches are:

-- Solstice Creek at Dan Blocker County Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek;

-- Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove, 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek;

-- Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier;

-- The Bel Air Bay Club at Will Rogers State Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the club border fence;

-- Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, entire swim area;

-- Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the storm drain; and

-- Santa Monica Pier, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.

Meanwhile, a warning has been lifted for the following beach area where recent sample results identified water quality levels within state standards:

-- Avalon Beach at Catalina Island, 50 feet west of the pier.

Recorded information on beach conditions is available 24 hours a day on the county's beach closure hotline, 1-800-525-5662. A map of impacted locations and more information can be found at PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach/.
