EV With Fake Engine Noises Recalled For Having The Wrong Fake Engine Noises

DW: That is so funny I just pooped a D-Cell.

Everyone occasionally has to deal with their vehicle making a strange noise, but this is new. Stellantis is recalling about 8,400 2024-25 Dodge Charger Daytona electric cars because the cars don’t make the fake sounds they were designed to play at low speeds. Each Charger was built with an external amp and speaker system, the “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust,” meant to pump out a 126-decibel rumble plus the softer electronic hum that U.S. rules demand for pedestrian safety under 19 mph.

An internal audit found that amps installed between April 30th and March 18th missed some key code, so the cars glide too quietly and break Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 141. Engineers opened a probe into the model, traced the fault over four weeks, and decided that a software patch and, in some cases, hardware swaps are needed. Owners will soon get recall notices and a free fix; until then, drivers are asked to be extra careful around walkers who might not hear the big “muscle EV” coming.
