NAACP Declines to Invite Trump to 2025 National Convention

In a historic move, the NAACP announced that President Donald Trump will not be invited to its 2025 National Convention, which will be held next month in Charlotte, North Carolina. This marks the first time in the organization’s 116-year history that a sitting president will not be welcomed at the event.

NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson explained the decision in a public statement on Thursday, June 19. He reminded the public that the NAACP is a nonpartisan organization that has always welcomed leaders who respect democracy and the U.S. Constitution.

However, Johnson said that President Trump’s recent actions are a clear attack on civil rights and democratic values. “Right now, it's clear that this president is attacking both civil rights and democracy,” he said.

The NAACP’s annual convention is one of the largest gatherings focused on civil rights, racial justice, and community empowerment. It’s typically a place where elected officials, activists, and everyday citizens come together to discuss the future of justice and equality in America.

This year’s decision not to invite the president sends a powerful message: civil rights and democracy must be protected, and the NAACP is standing firm in its mission.
