The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has officially recognized "Little League World Series Week," which will be celebrated from August 17 to 23. The resolution, HR 227, was proposed by State Representative Jamie Flick of Lycoming County and received overwhelming support, with 201 "yea" votes and only one "nay" from a representative from York County.
The Little League World Series, held annually in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, attracts tens of thousands of visitors from around the world. It features teams from diverse locations, including Canada, Texas, Taiwan, and Puerto Rico, competing for the championship. "Little League was founded in 1939 in Williamsport and has since become the largest youth organization in the world," Flick said. He emphasized the positive impact the event has on young athletes, families, and the community.
The resolution's passage was celebrated by local leaders, including Patrick Wilson, president of Little League, and Derek Slaughter, mayor of Williamsport. Wilson expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, "As the trusted leader in youth sports, we’re proud to call Pennsylvania our home." Slaughter added that the event not only honors the spirit of youth sports but also brings a significant economic boost to the region.
