Katy Man Said Held In Texas Capitol Threat

A man arrested Saturday in connection with threats against Texas politicians in Austin is identified as a resident of the Houston suburb of Katy.

That man's name has not been released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which headed up the investigation into a threat against lawmakers that resulted in the shutting down of the state capitol in Austin and the postponing of a rally that was scheduled on the capitol grounds for Saturday afternoon.

Austin TV station KXAN says its sources identify the suspect as Robert Leroy Bowers, 45, of Katy, who was arrested late Saturday afternoon in the city of LaGrange, between Houston and Austin.

Bowers' car was mentioned as part of police intelligence information on who might make threats against state lawmakers, and Bowers was pulled over as part of a routine traffic stop.

He was taken to Fayette County jail, not far from LaGrange, and is charged with driving a vehicle with only one license plate, a misdemeanor, but is being held without bail, the station reports.

There was also a gun in the car, but it's unclear if the suspect had a permit.
