The Berks County South Campus in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, is temporarily closed to the public after the detection of Legionella bacteria in its water system earlier this week. The closure allows contractors full access to conduct necessary remediation work on the water systems. County officials announced that approximately 95 employees will continue their work remotely or from alternative locations during this period.
The affected departments include the Area Agency on Aging, Assessment, Mapping, the Workforce Development Board, the Planning Commission, the Industrial Development Authority, the Berks County Redevelopment Authority, Community & Economic Development, Book Bonanza, County Archives, and the office of Magisterial District Judge David Yoch. Residents needing in-person services from these departments are advised to contact them directly to make alternative arrangements.
The county took these precautionary steps to ensure the safety of staff and the public following preliminary water test results that indicated the presence of Legionella. Further updates will be provided as the remediation process progresses.
