Steelers Can’t Pay TJ Watt for What He’s Done

Pittsburgh Steelers DE TJ Watt has not reported to mandatory minicamp yet and it has become clear he is trying to negotiate an extension as he enters the final year of his current contract. He’s probably looking to get the same kind of money Myles Garrett recently signed for ($40M/year), but Dan is concerned his production will drop off due to his age and warns the Steelers against breaking the bank to extend their aging superstar despite his storied career.

Dan Patrick: “His average annual salary is just over $28M, but Myles Garrett is making $40M. (TJ) Watt turns 31 in October. Umm, I can’t pay you for what you did! That’s the tricky part of this.”
