Severe weather swept through McAlester, early Saturday morning (June 7), leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. A suspected tornado caused significant damage to multiple buildings in the downtown and old downtown areas of McAlester. The storm blew the roof off a vacant building that previously housed Catholic Charities. Additionally, Miller Glass Co. suffered broken windows and roof damage.

Power outages have been reported across McAlester and Pittsburg County, though no injuries have been confirmed. The severe weather also forced the cancellation of events organized by the Jefferson Highway organization, which had been scheduled for Saturday morning. The organization expressed its condolences and urged people to pray for McAlester as it recovers from the storm.

The community is now focused on assessing the full extent of the damage and beginning recovery efforts. Local authorities and emergency services are on the scene to assist with cleanup and restoration.
