The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate in the parish jail.
Sheriff Joseph Lopinto says the inmate was taken from the lockup to a local hospital on Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency.
The inmate was pronounced dead on Thursday morning.
The sheriff's office says an autopsy is scheduled determine the inmate's cause of death. No further details were released.
