Yet another reason we love dogs. How smart are dogs? Smart enough to know that if they pretend to be hurt or sick, maybe their mom will stay home with them instead of going to work.
A woman named Cass shared a video on TikTok of her chihuahua Binky pretending he’s hurt before she leaves the house for work. It starts with Binky by the door, with one leg lifted and one eye partially shut.
“Buddy, look at me,” Cass says to the pup. “What’s wrong with your eye?” She then says, “You wanna go outside – go outside and play?” Right away, he’s just fine, spinning around excitedly. “Oh, now you’re fine,” she says to him. He then closes his eye and pretends he’s sick again.
According to experts, this is a real thing. If your dog has been sick or injured in the past, they likely got a lot of attention from you, and they learn that this is a way they can get attention from you again. Obviously, you need to make sure that your pup isn’t really hurt, but if their behavior quickly changes when you’re not looking or when you offer a treat or something fun, they just might be faking it. The best way to deal with it? Don’t give in to them.
