Iowa DNR Proposes New Deer Hunting Rules Amid Population Decline

(Iowa) -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is introducing new proposed deer hunting regulations for parts of western Iowa, aiming to help the region’s deer population recover after a 15-year decline.

The DNR will host three public meetings in May to gather input from residents and hunters:

• May 19 – Denison, at Yellow Smoke Park Lookout Shelter
• May 20 – Hinton, at the Dennis L. Sohl Center
• May 21 – Sioux Center, at Sandy Hollow Lodge

All meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are part of the second phase of the DNR’s Western Iowa Deer Initiative. The proposed regulations are designed to balance deer numbers to support both ecological health and a quality hunting experience. The DNR encourages public participation to help shape the future of deer management in the region.
