The T-Birds scored two goals in the first period and held on for a 2-1 win over the Bruins in Game One of the best-of-three.
The T-Birds wasted little time asserting themselves in the offensive zone in the opening minutes.
The Springfield Goal Scorers were Zach Dean and Matt Luff.
Providence got a goal from Oliver Wahlstrom to make things close.
The Thunderbirds will go for a sweep on Friday when the series shifts to Springfield for Game Two.
If Providence forces Game Three it would be Sunday afternoon at The Amp.
