HOWARD CITY, Mich. -- Michigan State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash in Montcalm County that resulted in a 12-year-old child and four other people being hospitalized.
It happened around 7:40 Monday night in Howard City. Troopers from the Lakeview Post said on the social media platform "X" that a vehicle turned into the path of a pickup truck on Enlsey Steet. After hitting the car, the truck traveled through the outside seating area of the Dairy Bear ice cream shop near Walnut Street.
State Police say two parked vehicles were hit (with people reportedly inside them) and the 12-year-old girl who was standing in line was then hit - perhaps by some debris from a picnic table, per witnesses. As of time of publication, there had been no word on the extent of the injuries to the girl or the four other people who were hit.
Scott Holmes told WOOD-TV his nephew and his nephew’s girlfriend were in the silver vehicle that was hit by the pickup, and that his nephew suffered a concussion, a broken thumb and a bruised leg. His nephew's girlfriend suffered two neck fractures.
State Police at the Lakeview Post issued a statement on social media saying, "Please keep these families in your thoughts as the investigation continues.".
