GOOD NEWS! Amputee Helps Develop World's Most Advanced Bionic Arms

An amputee and social media influencer has helped create what’s being called one of the world’s most advanced bionic arms. After losing her arms from meningitis, Tilly Lockey teamed up with engineers and researchers over the past four years to design a prosthetic that feels and functions more like a real limb. Her personal experience gave the team real insight into what amputees actually need, from comfort and movement to how the arm looks and feels day-to-day.

More than $2 million went into the project, which focused on both high-tech performance and practical features. The arm can grip, rotate, and move in ways that mimic a natural arm more closely than older models. It also includes smart sensors and improved muscle control, helping users do everyday tasks more easily. The influencer has tested the arm herself and shared her journey online, giving feedback that directly shaped the final design. She says it’s about more than just building a better arm—it’s about giving people back confidence, freedom, and a sense of normal life.
