Small plane flips over while landing at Ottawa Executive Airport

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate after a single-engine airplane landed belly up at the Ottawa Executive Airport on Tuesday morning.

The sheriff's office says deputies responded to a call about a plane crash a little before 9 a.m. at the airport on Byron Road in Zeeland Township.

When they arrived, they saw the Cessna 180 upside down just off the shoulder of the runway. Police say the plane experienced an unspecified problem while landing. The pilot and passenger declined medical treatment at the scene.

"Both occupants of the plane were able to exit it on their own prior to arrival. Initial investigation showed that the plane had experienced an issue during landing and overturned. Both occupants declined medical treatment. This incident remains under investigation and will be turned over to the FAA," the OCSO said in a news release.

Zeeland Township Fire/Rescue and AMR Ambulance also responded at the scene.
