Spanish and French followed, being the most studied languages in 33 and 16 countries, respectively. The motivations for learning these languages vary. English learners often aim to support their education, connect with others, or advance their careers. English, with approximately 1.1 billion total speakers, is the most widespread around the world, but in the US, the top language being learned with Duolingo is Spanish.
