Zoo Miami's 13-year-old male cheetah, “Koda,” went under a wellness exam as part of the Animal Health Department’s preventative medicine program.
Koda was born at the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Center in South Africa on March 6, 2012, and arrived at Zoo Miami that same year.
At 13 years of age, Koda is considered an old cheetah. In the wild, cheetahs generally live between 8-10 years. Under human care, that lifespan can be extended to 12 – 15 years. Because of his age, Koda is retired from making regular appearances and now enjoys an off-exhibit habitat.
