Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the Coppell Independent School District, alleging that their curriculum is illegally pushing "woke and hateful" critical race theory.

The lawsuit followed a video showing Coppell ISD's Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Evan Whitfield, talking about how he had circumvented Texas laws prohibiting the use of critical race theory in school curriculums.

According to Paxton's office, Whitfield has allowed Coppell ISD teachers to secretly teach using a "Next Generation Science Standards" curriculum, which has not been approved by the State Board of Education.

In a statement, Paxton said, "Liberal administrators who want to ignore state law and unlawfully push divisive and racist CRT curriculum in classrooms will be held responsible for their actions." He added, "Texas children deserve to receive the best education in the world, not have woke ideology forced upon them."
