Queen haven't released new music since 2008's The Cosmos Rocks with singer Paul Rodgers, but are they done writing? According to Brian May, the answer is no. The guitarist opened up about the possibility of releasing new Queen music during an interview with Mojo, revealing that he and drummer Roger Taylor have been working on material independently in their own studios.
“I think it could happen,” he admitted. “Both Roger and I are constantly writing and coming up with ideas and doing things in our studios. I could have the beginnings of a Queen song right there in front of me now. It’s just whether the idea reaches maturity or not. It’s whether that seed can grow.”
May's comments about releasing new music reflect those Taylor made in 2023. “I think we might,” he said in an interview with Uncut. “Brian and myself were talking the other day, and we both said that if we feel we have some good material, why not? We can still play. We can still sing. So I don’t see why not.”
Queen have been touring with singer Adam Lambert since 2012; however, it's unclear if he would be featured on new songs. As for their old material, the band sold their music catalog to Sony last year for a record-breaking £1 billion, which is around $1.27 billion.
