Luke Bryan FaceTimed a former American Idol winner after a rising country singer’s audition during the competition show’s current season. Bryan and the Idol champ teamed up to deliver an epic surprise to the new contestant.
Bryson Quick, 17, opted to “throw y’all a curveball and put a spin on a Pink Floyd song,” he said when he stood in front of Bryan and fellow judges Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood. Quick, a high school student from Seymour, Tennessee, delivered an unexpected twist on Pink Floyd’s 1970s song, “Time.”
Bryan compared the contestant with a “big, powerful voice” to Chayce Beckham, a California-born country singer who won American Idol in 2021. Quick received a unanimous “heck yeah” from the trio of celebrity judges, and the teen’s family joined him in the audition room to hear that he’s headed for Hollywood.
Bryan FaceTimed Beckham after Quick and his family stepped out of the room. The Mind Of A Country Boy star said, “hey, so you’re at the Opry tonight, right? You mind if we send a kid your way for a little inspiration? His name’s Bryson Quick. He’s kind of like a younger, better-looking version of you. It’s like amazing.”
“Kind of like how I was of you?” Beckham quipped back.
Underwood applauded the “well-played” comeback, and Bryan replied, “everybody’s got the zingers.”
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, who crowned Underwood the winner of the show’s fourth season in 2005, delivered the surprise to Quick that he would perform at the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Quick said he’d always wanted to see a show at the Opry, and now, the first time he set foot in the legendary venue, he’s there to perform with Beckham.
