Utica, N.Y. -Oneida County to file a lawsuit against New York and Governor Kathy Hochul and begin hiring former Correction Officers.
After approval from the County Legislature, Executive Anthony Picente says they'll file the suit within 48 hours. Its in response to Governor Hochul’s order prohibiting the hiring of those fired Officers.
Picente says as soon as it's filed, the County will begin hiring to fill much-needed vacancies in the Sheriff’s Office and other County departments.
Picente said in a press release:
"The men and women who have honorably served the public despite unacceptable working conditions, do not deserve to be treated so terribly. It is a violation of their rights and of our home rule as local governments. We will not stand for such an abuse of power and will gladly give these dedicated workers the support and respect they are entitled to."
