The National Weather Service updated the preliminary ratings of tornadoes that struck the Kentwood and Tylertown areas after continuing surveys of damage Monday.
The tornado that touched down northeast of Kentwood shortly after Noon on Saturday and moved northeast into Darbun, Mississippi is now considered to be an EF-4 with estimated peak winds of 170 miles per hour. It's blamed for three fatalities.
A second tornado that developed just southwest of Tylertown and took a similar path northeast towards Darbun about an hour later is now rated at EF-3 strength, with estimated peak winds of 140 miles per hour.
Initial estimates rated the tornadoes at EF-3 and EF-2 strengths respectively.
