Drivers in Central New York are benefiting from a slight decrease in gas prices, with the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel now at $3.12. This marks a one-cent drop from last week and a five-cent decrease compared to a month ago. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the state average is currently $3.11, while the national average stands at $3.07.
The reduction in gas prices is largely attributed to lower oil costs. However, AAA notes that the complete impact of these lower costs may not be immediately evident to drivers due to factors like tariffs and the transition to summer-grade gasoline, which is more expensive to produce.
Despite these factors, the trend of falling prices offers some relief to Central New York drivers, especially when compared to last year's national average of $3.39 per gallon. While the decrease is expected to continue, fluctuations may occur due to market dynamics and seasonal changes.
For diesel fuel, the national average has dropped to $3.63, with New York's average at $3.96, both down by one cent from last week. As gas prices continue to dip, drivers can expect some financial relief, though the situation remains subject to change.
