An event was held yesterday to honor the life of a Jupiter Middle School student and athlete who was killed last week while riding an e-bike.
Family, friends and neighbors of 12-year old Rico Roundtree gathered at Abacoa Community Park. Many had words of praise for the boy, including Blake, described as his best friend.
"I wish he was still here. It's so sad that he's gone but he's in a better place now."
Attendees described Rico as "humble, smart and joyful" as well as a "great athlete."
The sixth-grade student was riding with another child on an electronic bike on Thursday when they were struck by a car. The other boy and the driver of that vehicle were injured.
The Jewish Chabad Center of Jupiter has announced that they have formed the Rico Roundtree Scholarship Fund to keep the child's memory alive.
