Astros Manager Joe Espada spoke with the media on Sunday morning with a number of updates on the team.
Among the news, he officially named starting pitcher Framber Valdez the Astros' Opening Day starter. The Astros will open vs the New York Mets coming up on Thursday, March 27th. Hear all the action on SportsTalk790, your radio home for the Astros.
Other news included:
- 1B Christian Walker continues to work back from his oblique injury. Espada said the plan is to work him into Spring Training games this coming weekend, and said Walker "should be fine for Opening Day."
- Lance McCullers Jr will start Tuesday night's Spring Training game vs the Nationals.
- To keep Spencer Arrighetti on schedule, he will piggy back behind McCullers on Tuesday.
- Pitching prospect Miguel Ulloa left Friday's Spring Training game with right shoulder discomfort.
- Top prospect Cam Smith gets another start in right field on Sunday.
- Espada said Jose Altuve has made progress in the outfield and said its been enough for him to feel good about Altuve in LF
