FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team (16-9, 3-0 MW) finished the series sweep over Boise State (19-9, 0-3 MW) defeating the Broncos 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond.
The Bulldogs and the Broncos tallied four runs apiece in the contest. Junior Kennedy Bunker led the Bulldogs on the day going 3-for-3 with one RBI. HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, Taryn Irigoyen sparked the offense with a leadoff single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the defense. Alyssa Rebolledo then reached base on another error, allowing Irigoyen to score as she beat the throw home, giving the 'Dogs a 1-0 lead.
The Broncos took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on two hits. After a single, a hit by pitch, and a sacrifice bunt, Boise State had two runners in scoring position. The Broncos then followed with a 2-RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.
Fresno State retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Olivia Hill drew a leadoff walk, and Bunker followed with a double to score her. Lauren Almeida then hit an RBI groundout, bringing Bunker home to give the Bulldogs the lead.
Boise State threatened in the top of the seventh, starting the inning with a single up the middle and a walk. With two on and no outs, the Broncos attempted a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, but third baseman Madison Rey made a diving catch for the first out. Jordan and the defense then secured the final two outs, keeping the Broncos off the board and clinching the series sweep.
