Cleanup efforts are underway in the St. Louis metro area following severe storms that struck on Friday night (March 14). The storm system, which included tornadoes, fierce winds, and heavy rain, resulted in 12 fatalities across Missouri, with at least two deaths in the Greater St. Louis area. The National Weather Service reported up to 19 tornadoes in Missouri, including one in St. Louis.
The storms caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure. In Arnold, one of the hardest-hit communities, widespread destruction affected homes, businesses, and parks. The Fox Chase apartment complex suffered significant damage, and local landmarks like Applebee’s and Drury Inn had their signs torn apart. In Gray Summit, the welcoming center at Purina Farms sustained major damage, including a roof that was completely blown off.
In Bridgeton, residents are beginning to assess the damage, with some searching through debris for personal belongings. Photos from the area show large trees toppled onto homes and cars, and roofs nearly blown off completely. Maryland Heights' Creve Coeur Soccer Park also suffered major damage to its office building.
The state of Missouri has declared a state of emergency to assist with recovery efforts. The focus now is on clearing debris, restoring power, and providing aid to affected residents. As the cleanup continues, officials are working to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
