Toddler Killed In Accident

Harris County Sheriff's Department investigators say it's possible two people arrested in connection with the Northwest Harris County death of a child may have been intoxicated at the time of the child's death.

The 18-month-old girl was in the passenger's side of a car parked in the driveway of a home about 12:30 pm Saturday, deputies say, when her mother fell asleep, so the child got out of the car and started wandering around in the 21100 block of Cook Rd.

It was then that the mother's boyfriend drove up and apparently not seeing the toddler, struck and killed her with his car.

Investigators say they're looking into the possibility that both adults were intoxicated; there's also concern about why it may have taken the couple a while before they called 911.

The boyfriend has been arrested on old felony arrest warrants and the mother is in jail, being charged with child endangerment.

Investigators also say they've been checking the two for signs of intoxication.
