No Injuries From Officer-Involved Shooting With Juveniles in South Houston

Five alleged car thieves are taken into custody with one of them accused of pointing a firearm at a police officer.

Houston Police said the incident happened at Oakmoor and Airport Boulevard in Southwest Houston at around 8:30 p.m. According to HPD Assistant Chief Wyatt Martin, officers found a vehicle that was stolen that was also involved in a hit-and-run earlier in the day.

"The driver who was the victim in that hit-and-run had alleged that the individuals had displayed firearms," Martin said. "Officers had been in the area and on the lookout for the vehicle.

Officers eventually located the vehicle and followed it to the 11000 block of Oakmoor. Officers conducted a traffic stop and attempted to take into custody the five occupants of the vehicle. Investigators said two people were taken into custody immediately, both of them being juveniles, while the other three suspects took off running.

Martin said one of the suspects that took off running was also juvenile, making at least three of the five people to be juveniles.

"The juvenile that fled was approached by officers and at one point that juvenile displayed a firearm and one of our officers discharged his weapon at least one time," said Martin.

No one was struck by gunfire. The juvenile suspect did not fire the gun and had dropped it to surrender to authorities.

All five people were eventually taken into custody Friday night.
