With the backing of all 20 GOP Senators, the Texas Senate majority announced a new bill that will require voters to prove their citizenship.
"It's a Texas way for us to require proof of citizenship when you register to vote" said State Senator Bryan Hughes, who co-authored Senate Bill 16, "It's a basic fundamental concept."
Which sounds simple, but at the moment is currently - illegal in the state of Texas.
"To get a drivers license in Texas you show proof of citizenship, but to register to vote the federal government will not allow us to ask for proof of citizenship" Hughes told KTRH, "But we're not waiting on Washington."
And not waiting in the Senate. The bill is also expected to pass easily in the Texas House, before eventually landing on Governor Greg Abbott's desk to be signed into law.
