Rapper Jay Rock has reportedly been arrested following a traffic stop in Los Angeles.
According to a report ABC7 published on Friday, March 14, the TDE signee was stopped by the Los Angeles Police Department in the 13000 block of E. 115th Street in Watts. He was initially pulled over for allegedly trespassing in the Nickerson Gardens area. Police claimed the Grammy award-winning artist, born Johnnie McKenzie, tried to flee his vehicle after the officers declined to tell him why they stopped him. They also said he left a firearm in his car. He was arrested for possession of a firearm and booked on suspicion of felony weapons violation.
Jay Rock's arrest was caught on camera. In the clip above, you can see people crowded around the group of officers who apprehended him. The officers had him in handcuffs while he continued to question why they were arresting him.
It's been over a decade since Jay Rock was accused of criminal activity. In 2009, the "King's Dead" rapper was arrested after police named in the primary suspect in a shooting that occurred in Watts. According to AllHipHop, Rock was detained by police due to unrelated outstanding warrants. He was eventually cleared of wrongdoing and bailed out just in time to perform at a scheduled show in Utah.
As of this report, neither Jay Rock nor his label have commented on the situation. Prior to his arrest, Jay Rock was preparing to release his long-awaited album Eastside Johnny. He released a few songs from the album like "Too Fast (Pull Over)" featuring Latto and "Blowfly" with Ab-Soul. However, he hasn't confirmed the album's release date.
