Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee is joining a number of other left-wing officials in a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over DOGE cuts. This is something that the County Attorney really doesn't need to be involved in.
This comes just a few weeks after the Harris County Commissioners Court voted to allow the County Attorney to join these efforts without their approval. Menefee announced on Twitter that he was joining the lawsuit and called the DOGE cuts a "reckless move that threatens public safety, disaster response, and essential services."
The only member of the Commissioners Court who opposed this, Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, says this is something that Menefee doesn't need to be involved in. He said, "There will be more time and focus spent on that than on addressing issues like flood control litigation or the polluters in Harris County that need to be eliminated."
He went on to say that this is a waste of time, energy, and money—something the county has been short on for a while now. He said, "We need dollars. We need every nickel we can find to focus on real issues like crime and road improvement."
Ramsey also pointed out that for years now, high-profile Democrats like Barack Obama and even AOC have called for government waste to be reined in, and there was never this much outrage. That's a clear sign that much of the resistance to this now is just political.
He said, "Believe me. If this was a Democratic President doing DOGE, there would be no amicus brief. So there's no merit, no justification."
