WEST MICHIGAN -- The inaugural "Feed the Future" fundraiser to support Kids' Food Basket raised $42,208 on 104.5 WSNX in Grand Rapids and Muskegon radio stations 107 MUS "The Moose" and Rock 101.7.
The event raised money for the food equity community organization that provides Sack Suppers to West Michigan kids so they can have access to good, nutritious food. The program also provides kids will weekend meals to ensure they have something to eat on the weekends.
According to the 2022 Kids Count data from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, more than 38,000 children in Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa and Allegan counties experience food insecurity. That represents 13 percent of the child population.
Last year, KFB served 1.8 million meals which was 50,000 more than they had originally anticipated. This year, the organization is serving 11,000 meals a day to 61 schools in the area.
“At iHeart Media, we are proud of being part of a caring community that gives back,” said Tim Feagan, metro president for Grand Rapids and Muskegon at iHeart Media. “It’s important to support our neighbors right here in West Michigan and ensuring that kids have access to healthy food is something we can all get behind.”
