Do you live in one of the happiest cities in the country?

We all strive to be our happiest selves, but depending on where you live, that could be easier for some than for others. While happiness is subjective, it can also be influenced by a number of factors like job security, cost of living, mental health and even weather.

WalletHub compared nearly 200 cities around the country, including at least two of the most populated locales in every state, to determine which cities are the happiest in America. Among the list are two cities in South Carolina, including one destination that found a spot in the Top 15:

  • No. 14: Charleston
  • No. 102: Columbia

Of the South Carolina cities on the list, Charleston ranked as the happiest, coming in at No. 14 overall and earning high marks in the income & employment and emotional & physical well-being categories. Columbia, on the other hand, ranked as the unhappiest, earning below-average marks in both the emotional & physical well-being and community & environment categories.

These are the 10 happiest cities in America:

  1. Fremont, California
  2. San Jose, California
  3. Irvine, California
  4. Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  5. Overland Park, Kansas
  6. Lincoln, Nebraska
  7. Madison, Wisconsin
  8. Scottsdale, Arizona
  9. San Francisco, California
  10. Huntington Beach, California

To determine its rankings, WalletHub compared 182 across three key factors: emotional & physical well-being, income & employment and community & environment. these factors were then evaluated using 29 relevant metrics, including depression rate, life-satisfaction index, adequate-sleep rate, share of adults with mental health not good, life expectancy, food-insecurity rate, poverty rate, job security, unemployment rate, commute time, separation and divorce rate, hate-crime incidents per capita and ideal weather, among many others.
