Governor Maura Healey has signed an order that seeks to promote union labor for public construction projects.
Healey's executive order allows local governments and state agencies to enter into project agreements that could require that union labor is only used.
It also requires executive branch agencies to review projects with budgets over 35-million-dollars to determine if a labor agreement is in the best interests of taxpayers.
Healey's office says a 2022 study found that labor agreements lead to lower costs in construction projects.
