Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre is urging soon-to-be free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to follow in his exact path from the Green Bay Packers to New York Jets to Minnesota Vikings.

Rodgers, 41, was selected by the Packers as an heir to Favre in 2005, with the latter starting in his final three seasons with the franchise before retiring, un-retiring and being traded to the New York Jets in 2008, before signing with the Vikings -- the Packers' NFC North Division rival -- in 2009 and spending his final two NFL seasons with the franchise. During an appearance on the Will Cain Show Tuesday (March 11), Favre said he hopes Rodgers makes the same decision following his own disappointing stint with the Jets.

“By all means, sign with them. They got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position,” Favre said. "They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. If you get the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Of course, you gotta play the Packers then.”

Favre's comments came after the Athletic's Michael Silver wrote "Don't rule out Aaron Rodgers and the Vikings" after quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones agreed to free agency deals elsewhere this week. Minnesota is, however, expected to hand over the reins to 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during a preseason game prior to his rookie season.
