Ontario Premier Doug Ford has caved to Trump, after the President doubled down on tariffs. Earlier this morning, Trump announced that in response to Ontario placing a 25% tariff on electricity, he would add another 25% tariff on all Canadian steel and aluminum coming into the U.S.

This means that starting tomorrow, there will be an effectively 50% tariff on those Canadian products.

Through their own tariffs, Ontario Premier Doug Ford says that he has added around $100 a month to the average energy bills of Americans in Minnesota, Michigan, and New York. Ford has also threatened to cut off that electricity entirely.

Trump responded on Truth Social by saying, "Why would our country allow another country to supply us with electricity, even for a small area? Who made this decision, and why?"

He says that if Canada doesn't "immediately" drop their tariffs on U.S. goods, then he will "substantially increase" American tariffs on Canada on April 2nd.

Ford responded by announcing a suspension of the 25% electricity tariff on Michigan, New York, and Minnesota. This follows what Ford called a "productive" conversation between himself and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
