Mayra Guillen, Sister Of Vanessa Guillen To Challenge Rep. Al Green

In fresh political news here in Houston, Mayra Guillen, the sister of the late Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen announced on social media that she is planning to run for congress.

Guillen, who has no political experience is making a run at disgraced Democrat, Al Green and the 9th Congressional District seat here in Houston.

"As a candidate, I Think there's a lot to be said for her, and her narrative, her story, her family story. I think it's very, very strong" said political analyst, Bill Miller.

But, with that said, will it be strong enough to take down an entrenched Democrat like Green?

"I think there are easier seats to win" Miller told KTRH, "And the idea of defeating him or unseating him, it just doesn't seem feasible to me and it doesn't seem to be a wise decision."

We reached out directly to Mayra Guillen for comment, but she did not respond to our request.

"I always say, if someone wants to get into politics the first rule is, where can you win" noted Miller, "It's not the best starting point. She's got her reasons for doing it, and she'll be a strong candidate. I just don't think that on election day she'll be happy with the outcome."

First up though, before November of 2026, will be the Texas primary.
