Press Release from Mount Vernon PD:

On March 8, 2025 at approximately 4:17 PM officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to the Dollar General store in the Kroger Plaza on Coshocton Avenue in response to a reported shooting.

Officers continued and cleared the entire building, there were no other victims located. The officers were informed by witnesses that the suspect had fled the scene, and descriptors were given out. The building was then secured as a crime scene.

As the officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department were Securing the crime scene, Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office (who also responded to the incident) located the reported suspect vehicle. The Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and detained the two adult occupants (one male and one female).

Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department were called to the scene of both the initial incident and the traffic stop, along with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the Knox County Coroner’s Office and the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office.

One of the individuals detained by the Knox Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Patrick D. Yoder (36) was arrested and will be charged with Aggravated Murder with a firearms specification. As the investigation continues, further details of the incident will be released as appropriate.

The victim’s family has been notified. In accordance with the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s identification will not be released at this time.
