Lawmaker: CCRI Incident Is A Wake-Up Call

A Woonsocket man has been arrested after police say he was found with an airsoft pistol and two knives on the Community College of Rhode Island campus.

The college was placed on lockdown just after noon Thursday after the Public Transit Authority that reported a man had been causing a disturbance on a bus and he was seen entering the campus.

The incident is sparking a reaction from some state lawmakers.

“Today’s incident in Lincoln should serve as a wake-up call to the presidents of CCRI and RIC. Thank goodness that no one was injured or killed today, but we were lucky, and the sad reality is that the campuses of CCRI and RIC are not prepared for these types of incidents and attacks due to their presidents’ refusal to arm their campus police,” said Representative O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence).

Forty-eight-year-old Junior Sage was taken into custody without incident.

He is not a student at the college and has no affiliation with the school.
