The New York Phoenix, Schenectady's newest professional basketball team, will make its official debut tonight (February 28) at Armory Studios NY. The Phoenix will face the Connecticut Crusaders at 7 p.m., followed by a game against the Halifax Hoopers tomorrow. These games are part of The Basketball League's East Conference, which also includes the Albany Patroons.
Led by head coach and former Albany Patroon Trevis Wyche, the team has been preparing for this moment since holding tryouts in January. The Phoenix's roster features players like Mustapha Traore, Josh Montgomery, Quadir Welton, and Arsenio Arrington. The team aims to make a strong impression in their inaugural season.
The Armory Studios NY, located at 125 Washington Avenue, offers seating for over 2,000 fans, including 125 courtside seats. The venue provides free parking for all home games, enhancing the fan experience. Tickets are available online or at the door, with doors opening at 6 p.m.
As the Phoenix takes to the court, they join a growing list of teams in The Basketball League, bringing excitement and competitive basketball to the Capital Region. The team's debut marks the beginning of what they hope will be a successful season.
