There’s been a lot of talk about how little Gen Z (those between the ages of 12-28 yrs old) likes to talk on the phone. There’s even a name for it: telephobia. And it’s a real thing. Growing up with texting and messaging, many Gen Zers find phone calls so stressful that they experience physical symptoms like increased heart rate and shaking. But it's not just about avoiding awkward conversations. This phone fear is affecting their work, too, with employers finding that Gen Z workers are much more hesitant to make or take calls. It’s so bad that Nottingham College in England has even started a class to help Gen Zers overcome their fear of talking on the phone.
