A new task force has made good work so far on illegal street takeovers in Harris and Montgomery counties.
Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle is leading law enforcement officers representing 23 agencies across the two counties in preventing street takeovers, racing and reckless driving.
After last Friday night, the first night of the weekend-long enforcement operation, authorities said they prevented multiple attempted parking lot and street takeovers. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, over 300 traffic stops were conducted with 20 arrests made including reckless driving and drug-related offenses. Several of the people arrested are also facing drug-related charges.
In Harris County, 5 arrests were made for reckless driving and deadly conduct. A juvenile was also arrested for reckless driving and released to their parents.
95 citations were issued and another 223 warnings were handed out. Multiple vehicles were also either towed or seized.
Law enforcement did recover a few firearms and two stolen vehicles as well.
"We are a law and order community, and we are committed to ensuring that everyone can enjoy their hometown without fear of injury by reckless drivers or illegal activity," Sheriff Doolittle said. "The teamwork and dedication from every deputy, officer, and trooper proved that when we work together, we win together by keeping our community safe."
