The Shelby Whippets beat the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans in a tournament thriller on Friday, 51-49, in overtime. The win gave #3 Shelby (15-8) the Sectional Championship and sends them into the district semi-finals on Tuesday (8pm) vs #2 Upper Sandusky at Findlay high school.
Shelby led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but OG cut the lead to 7 at the half, 29-22. The Titans clawed to within 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter at 36-33. Ottawa-Glandorf took a 3 point lead late in the 4th, when Nic Eyster drained a 3-point shot from the left corner to tie the game at 44-44 with :44 seconds left.
The game went to OT, where Eyster continued to come up big for the Whippets, as he scored 4 of their 7 points in OT.
Eyster led the way for Shelby with 15, Landon Foltz had 11 points, which all came in the 1st half, Karsen Homan had 10 and Brayden Devito added 8. Devito sunk two big free throws late in overtime.
The Titans (8-13) had a great performance from Grady Toumazos, who scored a game high 21 points.
