Community Connect is always here to hook you up and help you out with resources you can use for Black History Month as we enter this last week of the commemorative month -- but you know we'll keep celebrating all year long! ;)
Tomorrow, the Chicago Park District hosts a Black History Month Celebration at Loyola Park (1230 W. Greenleaf Avenue) in the Rogers Park neighborhood to celebrate the rich heritage of the African-American, African and Caribbean families in the area. The program will focus on youth and teen entrepreneurship along with featuring an art showcase plus dance and music performances. It’s all free, tomorrow from 12:30-2pm.
Animal lovers, ALIVE Rescue’s 16th annual Shelter Shiver Chicago starts at 10am at North Avenue Beach (1600 N. DuSable Lake Shore Drive)… teams and solo participants can take a chilly plunge into Lake Michigan to help raise money to find homes for homeless pets and provide medical care, then warm up and win prizes at the after party at Off Color Brewing on Kingsbury (1460 N. Kingsbury Street, Chicago) from 11am-1pm. You can donate, register, and get all the info at this link.
Remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
