Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has officially been confirmed by the Senate to serve as Trump's Health and Human Services secretary. Kennedy previously ran against Trump as a Democrat, and then as an Independent during the 2024 presidential race.
He then dropped out of the race and cast his support behind President Trump, pledging to work with him to "Make America Healthy Again."
During his confirmation hearings, RFK Jr. spoke out about and pledged to address the issue of chronic disease in the United States, as well as rising obesity rates. He was also accused of being an "anti-vaxxer," though he maintains that he simply wants American vaccine policy to be in line with scientific data.
The vote to confirm RFK Jr. was almost completely along party lines, with 45 Democrats and 2 Independents voting NO, and 52 Republicans voting YES. Notably, former Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) voted with the Democrats against RFK.
