Rent-A-Chicken, How Egg-cellent!

With egg prices soaring, some people are turning to an unusual solution—renting chickens. A company called Rent the Chicken lets people lease hens, feed, and a coop to get fresh eggs at home, per Food & Wine.

But is it worth it?

Packages range from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars for five to six months, with hens laying 16 to 28 eggs per week. That works out to about $37.50 per dozen—not exactly a bargain.

The company, which started in 2013, warns that chickens might not be as fun as they seem. Kids get bored, and chickens aren’t exactly house pets.

So, unless you love farm life, you might just want to pay up at the grocery store instead!
